Properly using an Ozone Generator
Although They are defined as indoor cleaning devices, they shouldn’t be used around the homes where people or other living things such as plants and animals are at. This is due to the health hazards that they can potentially cause, which include respiratory problems and other lung damages. Even though its needed in the atmosphere for people and living things to survive, it can react with other organic compounds in the air to produce harmful gases and substances. Since the ozone being produced is close to the surface of earth where we live, it can harm us as in which it would not be able to do so much harm if its just located in the upper atmosphere of the earth. Ozone can be introduced to the lower atmosphere of earth indirectly by ion generators as well as other electric air cleaners.
Exposure to ozone in excess can cause increased allergy-like symptoms as well as eye, nose and throat irritation. Coughing and chest pains when deeply inhaling are also symptoms of overexposure to ozone. Even though they should not be used where there are people present, it still would be put to good use in unoccupied commercial areas to clean the air and remove unpleasant odors. Since the levels of ozone produced by generators aren’t easily controlled by the consumer and is determined more by the room sizing, ventilation and power settings, it should not be used around people, especially those who are elders or children as they are usually more reactive to the ozone symptoms. These areas include any residential homes and vehicles.
